The rumours of a new iPod touch are flooding in thick and fast now. To back up recent gabbing that Apple’s powerful PMP will be getting a video camera, a mysterious new iPod has been caught surfing online. Read on to follow the trail on Apple’s newest, but most elusive gizmo!
PinchMedia has donned the deerstalker and done some detective work, looking for the model names of devices using its software. It’s recorded a previously unseen “iPod 3,1″ jumping online and testing out popular online apps (Facebook?), and increasingly frequently too. Is this the new iPod touch, and does the increased activity mean its in the final throes of testing?
It sure looks that way: the current iPod touch (which hops on the net via Wi-Fi) logs with the model number “2,1″, so this promises to be an all new model. That, and PinchMedia says that several dozen “iPod 3,1″ devices have been recorded, suggesting we’ve moved beyond the prototype stage. And, unless the iPod nano has had Wi-Fi shoehorned in to its tinchy shell, that points to a new iPod touch.
This isn’t official, concrete word of a new iPod touch, but with those giant camera orders and the release window for a new iPod range in the last 2 years fast approaching, it’s looking more and more likely.
