Nokia’s UK managing director Mark Loughgran doesn’t mince his words. In a new interview, Nok’s big cheese here in Blighty has laid into the iPhone 3GS, saying the N97′s superior camera and radical design, coupled with better value for money, make it the smartphone of choice. Read on to find out Loughgran’s tuppence worth on the iPhone 3GS.
In this summer’s smartphone wars, no one’s holding back. Especially not Nokia’s Mark Loughgran. Speaking to Symbian Freak, he unsurprisingly hauled the iPhone 3GS over the coals, dubbing Apple’s latest effort “a disappointment.”
Bigging up the Nokia N97, Loughgran said, “The new iPhone is an evolution rather than a revolution and for people trying to decide whether to get a Nokia N97 or an iPhone, it comes down to a decision in performance and value for money.”
Warming to his theme, Loughgran went on to add, “The new iPhone seems to have the same design and colour, upgrading from a sub–standard 2–megapixel camera to a still low 3.2-megapixel camera, and is probably a disappointment for many people given the high tariff and lifetime ownership costs.”
It’s no surprise to see Nokia’s top boss giving the iPhone 3GS a hammering. But with a million shifted in the first weekend, it seems punters aren’t too concerned about that camera or the cost.
Nokia will be keen to keep their good N97 sales going though, especially as predictions of Apple’s smartphone growth refuse to die.
