The word is out: Microsoft’s unveiling the next generation of Microsoft Office on Monday, taking musty old word processing and spreadsheets into the cloud, so you can work anywhere. Question is, can it win against Google’s increasing dominance online and its all-new Chrome OS?
It’s a topic that’s had the Electricpig Forum in a quandary since the Chrome OS was first announced yesterday. We’re even running a book on what exactly Microsoft will unveil to tackle Chrome. Or maybe you think Office Web alone is enough to see off Sergey and Larry?
New Electricpig Forum moderator AsciiSmoke thinks we’ll see more from the Big M involving the clouds, citing increasing buzz about cloud computing in Microsoft’s own Technet e-mails as evidence.
Meanwhile, Spider86 is holding out hopes for Windows Mobile on an iPhone… although maybe he’s being sarcastic. Our own Ben Sillis thinks Microsoft has yet another browser up its sleeve, ready to offer HTML5, plug-ins and third-party extensions.
But what do you think? Will Office Web fend off Google alone, or does Microsoft have more weapons in the Windows war chest? Get involved and have your say!
