Sony PlayStation 3The world might be strapped for cash, but Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer isn’t entertaining the idea of a price-cut for the PlayStation 3. He’s flatly dismissed it, slamming the lid shut on chatterboxes from analysts to games bosses, all of whom have been calling for a reduction in the PlayStation’s price. Looking for a cheap console? One things for sure: it’s not going to be a PS3.

The Sony boss made his statements to Reuters, responding to a threat from Activision CEO Robert Kotick that the developer might stop creating games for the PS3, due to its high price.

Stringer, however, says it’s just tit for tat business talk: “He likes to make a lot of noise,” the Sony honcho said. “He’s putting pressure on me and I’m putting pressure on him. That’s the nature of business.”

And on cutting the price of the PS3? “I [would] lose money on every PlayStation I make,” he said. “How’s that for logic?”

I don’t see why the PS3 needs a price cut. I paid £425 for mine, and even at that price, it’s incredible value. At it’s current £279, it’s a unbelievable bargain.

What needs to change, is consumers need to stop being pikeys and buying the cheapest crap out there, as cheap is almost always crap. At the same time, Sony need to sell the PS3 better, and show people it’s full capabilities, and what you get for your money, that you don’t get with cheaper and inferior consoles.

As for Activision, they need to look closer to home, as £120 ( just under half the price of a PS3) for a plastic record deck DJ’ing game is what I call overpriced…
