Could the Palm Pre launch on O2 in the UK with BBC iPlayer installed? We’ve spoken to the top brass at the reinvigorated smartphone company to find out what’s in store for the Pre’s British release, and discovered work is well under way on UK-specific apps for the Palm Pre, right out of the box. Read on for all the juicy details.
We spoke to Dave Whalen, Palm’s senior vice president of global sales, about the Palm Pre’s launch in the UK “in time for the holidays”. He couldn’t be more specific about the release date for the iPhone rival, but he did confirm that Palm was looking into new partner apps for the Palm Pre to launch with here.
Will there be new British partners onboard? “Absolutely. We’re working closely with Telefonica [O2's parent company] in the foreign markets to identify the right kind of application developers to partner with to make sure we’ve got meaningful relevant apps available,” he said.
Whalen wouldn’t say if BBC iPlayer was one of the partners, but you’d have to expect it to be high up the list for Palm, given the service’s enormous popularity on the iPhone, as well as Nokia preloading it on new Nseries smartphones. Stay tuned, we’ll bring you more as soon as we have it.
