CrunchPad tablet launching JulyThe CrunchPad touchscreen web tablet created by the founder of Silicon Valley blog network TechCrunch, Michael Arrington, is about to be unleashed, with an unveiling pencilled in for as early as this month!

We’re pretty fed up of all those MIDs, UMPCs and whatever other acronyms you care to call them sporting Windows Vista and a touchscreen for no real reason, so the cheap as chips CrunchPad looks set to be a breath of fresh air. The 12-inch CrunchPad slate promises one thing, and one thing only: zippy web access, and according to the New York Times, the CrunchPad will be officially launched in late July or early August, with retails units stacking up on shop shelves promptly afterwards.

Why all the fuss about a device from a company with no track record in hardware? The simplicity of it all. There’s no wider operating system on the CrunchPad, just a browser that’ll do you right for surfing, scouring your email and grazing on video (Yes, there’s Flash support). It’s expected to be powered by an Atom processor, like most netbooks, and the slab is just 16mm thick.

The best bit of all though? The CrunchPad is expected to come in under $300 in the US, or £190 in UKaydian pounds. It does make you wonder, if a blogger can stroll in and do this, what’s stopping Apple from outing its Mac Tablet already? Chop chop.
