The EMTEC G Box is a brand new nettop from a newcomer to the mini-desktop market, and not only is it one of the cheapest yet, it’s also one of the thinnest, being barely bulkier than 2 USB ports stacked on top of each other.
If you’re hunting for a super-cheap, super-small desktop computer, you might want to hold back before splashing out on an Asus Eee Box: the EMTEC G Box manages to squeeze in some similar specs (Windows XP, 6 USB ports and a 160GB HDD) into something even skinnier for just £179.
Like the recent Acer AspireRevo, the EMTEC G Box runs NVIDIA’s Ion platform, and although the prototype on display doesn’t have HDMI, a later version will have, and that sub-inch thick casing will fit in just about anywhere, meaning that in a few months’ time, you could be popping this on the back of your TV like it wasn’t there.
The EMTEC G Box doesn’t have a release date just yet, but expect it to undergo a name change before launch – thankfully the G Box is just a working title, dawg.
