First, I must apologise as I got a little behind with the sending of my blogs this week. Therefore please refer to my site (which I promise isn’t trying to sell you anything!) for the remainder of my posts: soon to feature the second half of ‘Life is a Rollercoaster’, the long-awaited battery power analysis and a post about it being made of bamboo – is it really such a good idea?
So, before I start with the grovelling: ‘Please vote for me, I need my laptop’ stuff (don’t worry I’m not really going to go there) let’s have a quick recap of the last four weeks.
From the first moment I opened the box to the U6, I was in love: the packaging itself was gorgeous and the wooden finish even more so, and so unique. I loved all the little extras too.
As you may remember I was having some serious technical issues with all the other gadgets in my life (digital camera wasn’t working, internet wasn’t connecting and PC just a little more than annoying!) So it was relief more than anything when I realised the U6 was shiny, new and…working!
My first difficulty came when the fingerprint scanner wouldn’t work but this was soon forgotten about when the facial recognition software was discovered.
I also managed to lose all the sound at one point but that came back and I sorted out my computer game issues recently with an alternative version of the game.
But with these few little problems came a very impressive performance of the webcam, wireless connection and keyboard, among other things.
So I have weighed up the pros & cons over the last four weeks and, after looking up the RRP for this model (approx. £1,200), I have come to some conclusions – and I hope I’ve helped you to as well.
This laptop is high-end, there’s no point denying this: £1,200 is a lot of money to the average consumer (assuming they’re poor like me!) but asides from the obvious: saving the planet while getting a lot of admiring glances (yes I’ve seen you looking, members of the public) this laptop has a lot to offer:
- it is super light – easily carried in one hand and this is coming from a weak girly girl;
- it has a DVD re-writer for strictly legal burning of discs on the move – useful for photo slideshows etc.;
- microphone & headphone sockets and webcam for ultra communication;
- E-SATA and HDMI ports – they sound good (I’ve no idea what you do with them though!); and
- wireless connectivity, to name a few.
So the U6 isn’t just about looks, it really delivers technically. I would say, if you can afford it – I recommend this laptop completely. I’ve used it every day in the last four weeks, I’m not even beginning to get bored of it being made of bamboo, it’s noticeably faster than my PC & work Mac (just don’t tell my manager) and it’s going to be hard to let it go.
As you can see from the latest photos, I found two extremely helpful friends to help look after the Bamboo U6…smooth criminals perhaps?
Anyway, I have really enjoyed this experience and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. At this point and, in true Oscar speech style, I’d just like to thank Mike, Stephen and John for setting this experience up and working ‘behind the scenes’ as it were to make it all possible and Karl and Mark for your help/random gossip too!
Well as I now seem in danger of being sued for using several song titles in these blogs, I better get going but thanks for reading and I would love you to vote for me if you decide to…free choice and all that!
Lauren
Xoxoxo …sorry!
