Psystar, the infamous computer seller flogging its own branded machines running Mac OS X may have filed for bankruptcy, but that’s not stopped it from releasing another new machine likely to land it in court. The company is back with a vengeance, and it’s thrown the gauntlet down for Cupertino with some barbed comments aimed directly at Apple.
We thought Florida-based Psystar, which sells computers with OS X installed against Apple’s will, was doomed after being hit with lawsuits and filing for bankruptcy, but it’s just unveiled the Psystar Open(7) with an Intel Xeon processor and support for up to 12GB of RAM for $1,500 (£900).
That’s nice, but the real surprise here is that Psystar is still operating at all, and with such bravado. In a recent email to customers, Psystar claims it’s back to “battle Goliath”, and that “when life gives you apples, make applesauce”.
Now who could that refer to? Whoever is now bankrolling Psystar must have very deep pockets. Or be mad, or quite possibly both: expect more legal tussling shortly.
