Hyundai has dropped plans to launch a mobile business in the UK, taking with it any hope of the UK seeing the Hyundai MB-910 watch phone. The dream is over.
Hyundai’s MB-910 may have been essentially rubbish, but it was still the best attempt we had seen at a watch phone that was both affordable and (just about) wearable. Sadly, Hyundai’s plans to market the Dick Tracyesque device in the UK have been ditched, along with broader plans to set up a mobile phone business in this country.
Hyundai’s mobile ambitions began to fall apart in March this year with the collapse of its UK distribution partner, Advantage Cellular. Since then, Hyundai bosses have tried to find a replacement but the pesky economy has meant that this has proven difficult.
Hyundai had planned to try to seize and ambitious 3-5% of the UK market by releasing between 10 and 15 phones, including the MB-910. Goodbye Hyundai Mobile UK, we hardly knew ye.
