The Elonex eBook is a new e-reader that’s just gone on sale in the UK, and it’s tied up an impressive distribution deal with Borders that’ll let you load it up with digital tomes from the bookshop’s eBook Download Store. Watch out Cool-er, this one’s coming right at ya!
You might remember Elonex as an early entrant in the netbook market, with its shonky £129 laptop, but now it’s breaking into the eBook market tied up by the Kindle in the US and the Sony Reader over here.
Specs wise, the Elonex eBook is disturbingly similar to the Cool-er: it’s got a 6-inch eInk screen which can display portrait or landscape text, is 9mm thin and weighs 180g, with an expansion card slot (If it is the same white box eBook as the Cool-er, we assume it’s SD) and a very similar price, £189.
But the Elonex eBook will also work with Borders’ eBook Download Store, although at a glance the fiction section only seems to sell Jacqueline Wilson books right now. The Elonex eBook is out now nationwide, and comes with an extra accessory pack including memory card and leather case for £29.
