Microsoft’s Project Natal and Sony’s Motion Controller are both gearing up for their respective console launches, expected in 2010. Developers are just now getting their mitts on the first dev kits and at this early stage there are few going spare, but it sounds like Sega’s MD for European development, Gary Dunn, wants one rather badly. In a recent interview, Dunn stated, “Both systems offer us so many opportunities to do great things with videogames. I immediately now want to make another Virtua Tennis.”
Whether Sony or Microsoft are going to furnish the excited Mr Dunn with an appropriate dev kit is up to them, but Virtua Tennis would be a good choice for the rival systems. It’s a good family friendly, accessible game, and it’s also done the rounds on the Wii, both with the original controller and with the new Wii MotionPlus enhancement.
Gary Dunn sees this experience as an opportunity to get an early advantage in the upcoming motion / gesture control spaces. “Being the largest third-party publisher on Wii we obviously have good gestural experience,” he said, adding “I can see an opportunity to get a land grab on some of our competitors by taking our head start in gestural gaming and evolving it.

I love Virtua Tennis, and I’d be interested to see if a motion sensing version could best tennis with Wii MotionPlus. Smashing news!
