The Sony NAS-7200iR is a brand new iPod dock and audio system from the Japanese giant, but it’s not just another iGeneric peripheral for your PMP. No no. As well being DNLA-certified and Wi-Fi friendly, it comes with one of the most stunning remote controls we’ve ever laid eyes on, and puts the Sonos click wheel to shame!
One of the problems with Sony’s recent GigaJuke music server is that the remote is your plain old candybar that doesn’t show track listings or menus, and while the Sony NAS-7200iR doesn’t do quite the same thing, it’s sorted the remote alright, replacing the generic button box with a gorgeous, rechargeable gizmo with a 3.5-inch LCD display.
That remote will let you control all the media connected to the Sony NAS-7200iR, whether by the iPod dock, USB ports or DLNA attached devices on your network, as well as internet radio and the AM/FM tuner built in to the Sony NAS-7200iR.
If you can take your eyes off the remote, the Sony NAS-7200iR is attractive enough by itself, with CD player (Supporting MP3 playback) and two 20W speakers, plus the port for Apple’s famous little music players. The Sony NAS-7200iR will hit the UK in September for whatever Sony decides is a fair translation of €699 (About £600), but you’ll be able to get a hold of a non-Wi-Fi version, the CMT-Z100iR, in July. Either way, you can feast your eyes on it in our gallery right now!
