Palm Pre users are restricted to the US at the moment, where the Pre’s preference for CDMA networks allows it to work just fine. Those waiting for a release in GSM-land got a boost the other day when a real-live Palm Pre showed up in Vietnam, rocking a GSM SIM card.
The Palm Pre runs on CDMA networks in the US, and eager Palm fans (and would-be reviewers) in Europe have been unable to get imported Pre’s working with a GSM connection. The Palm Pre is due out here in September, we are told, but proof that GSM support is coming has arrived in the form of a video clip from – of all places – Vietnam.
Although Palm is strongly rumoured to be bringing the Palm Pre to Europe in a couple of months, the company has never actually given a definitive time frame for the phone’s release. Still, this looks fairly convincing to us and we hope that this means the GSM-ified Palm Pre is nearly ready. Hopefully, Palm can now concentrate on getting enough of the little blighters to market to satisfy the demand.
