YoutubeFancy yourself as the Martin Bell of Manchester or the Kate Adie of the Old Kent Road? Good news from Youtube then. It’s just launched the citizen journalist channel for aspiring journalists with tips on being a reporter.

The channel is US-centric with video tutorials from American pros. Watergate reporter and respected commentator Bob Woodward offers tips on investigative journalism while Nick Kristof of the New York Times talks about covering a global crisis.

The Youtube Reporters’ Centre, as the channel has been dubbed, is the site’s direct response to the swell in social media reporting on the Iranian Elections. Hopefully it might teach some of Twitter’s madder users not to panic.

The new channel follows the launch last month of Citizentube, a special YouTube blog devoted to aggregating the way people are using online video to report on news and social affairs.

What are you waiting for? Get out there and give us that extensive coverage of Mrs Wiggins at Number 32 and her irresponsible parking habits. It’s what the public wants.
