starbucks-laptopO2 has announced a deal with BT that allows O2 customers to use BT’s Openzone hotspots as part of their mobile tariff – that means you can now hook up online while waiting for your Vanilla Frappuccino at Starbucks.

The deal means that O2 customers will be able to use an extra 3,000 hotspots on top of the original 7,500 that customers already have access to, including its own hotspots and those from Cloud.

O2 has also updated its Wi-Fi connection software, adding new functionality to the dongles, such as a data counter so you can keep an eye on exactly how much data you’re crunching through. It can also be set to send you a notification when you reach certain levels of your allowance. Pretty handy if you spend as much time surfing the Web as us.

Unfortunately, the upgrade will only work with Windows at the moment – sorry Mac fans. It’s available for existing O2 customers this week, with new customers getting the upgrade next month.
