Lenovo could produce even thinner laptops, using OLED instead of LED or LCD in the screens, right now. But they won’t yet because of a lack of consumer demand.
“If demand is there” Lenovo could produce a 15-inch OLED version of its T500 ThinkPad laptop tomorrow, Franciso Carias, Lenovo product marketing manager, ThinkPad, told Computerworld. And a Lenovo spokesperson told Pocket-Lint: “It’s not the technicality, it’s the cost.”
So far, OLED screens haven’t made much of an impact in the UK. And that’s mainly because the screens still cost an absolute bomb in comparison to other thin-screen technology. If you have the money, you can buy a Sony super-thin XEL-1 TV (11″ screen, £3,489 price tag, 3mm thick), but that’s about it.
