It took the iPhone Dev Team a few days, but they’ve managed to get their unlock tool for iPhone 3G working and ready for public consumption. Ultrasn0w, which is a contender for best hacker name ever, works with either Redsn0w or PwnageTool to jailbreak the iPhone, then unlocks the iPhone OS 3.0 software, allowing you to use the touchscreen handset on any network you like.
The iPhone Dev Team’s work isn’t yet over though. Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w now works with the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and all variations of iPod Touch, but it seems that the iPhone 3G S – sorry, iPhone 3GS – is still resisting efforts to unlock it. The team promises that a fix for iPhone 3GS is now on its way, so just sit tight for the time being.
If you’re itching to get your iPhone OS 3.0 handset unlocked, head on over to the iPhone Dev Team blog for all the downloads and instructions.
