Flash 10 for smartphones, which promises to bring true web video to mobile, will go into beta from October, but it looks like there will be two gaping smartphone omissions, the iPhone and BlackBerry families.
Things have been quiet in recent months over at the Adobe camp regarding Flash 10. We’ve been told before that the browser plug-in would be coming to smartphones by the end of the year, but Adobe just made things a bit more specific, with a slide in its Q2 2009 earnings presentation confirming that Flash 10 will go into beta at the company’s MAX conference in October.
However, the slide makes no mention of what smartphone platforms will support Flash 10, which raises the serious possibility that no more partners have been added since Flash 10 was confirmed for Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android and webOS phones.
Can you tell what’s missing? Yup, both BlackBerry and iPhone support, and while we know that Adobe has been working on Flash 10 for iPhone at least, it doesn’t look like we can expect it to be first out of the gate with other platforms.
