MovieIQ is a brand new feature for BD-Live on web-connected Blu-ray players that lets you pull up all the info on the film you’re playing while you watch. No need to dig through the Internet Movie Database for that name you can’t quite remember anymore!
BD-Live has struggled to prove itself as a remotely useful feature in blu-ray players so far, but Sony may have just found a killer purpose for it with MovieIQ. It’s essentially a film database of fact, figures and trivia, so you can find out who plays who and what that song in the background is on the fly.
Sony’s so sure about MovieIQ that it’s including it with all of the studios Blu-ray releases from September, starting with new titles like Angels And Demons, and classic releases including Easy Rider.
MovieIQ is the brainchild of the media database bods at Gracenote, owned by Sony, and while we’ve yet to test MovieIQ, anything that stops us from scrabbling for a laptop or phone with Shazam mid-movie can only be a good thing. Keep an eye out for this one in the Autumn.
