Google is prepping a new Labs feature, Google Flipper, that looks set to make a splash when it launches. It’s a new way of browsing Google News results, and it’s much more visual – just like flipping through a magazine in fact. Read on to find out what we know so far.
TechCrunch has it on good authority that Google Flipper is in the pipeline, and has stumbled across a screenshot suggesting Google Flipper will let you browse news stories through tiled images of stores. You’ll also be able to search through sources and keywords, and now also by most viewed and recommended tabs, hinting at Digg-like social media features.
Google Flipper might not improve the results you get with search, but the visual representation is a nice touch when you want to identify stories with plenty of pictures, or catch the media’s reaction to breaking stories at a glance.
How do we know it’s real? The leaked screen to the right looks convincing to say the least, and Google definitely has something going under the name Google Flipper, since its URL takes you to a Google sign-in page rather than an error. Log in though, and the screen is blank right now. We don’t know when Google Flipper launches yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it flops into view.
