Orange Power Pump steps onto videoThe Orange Power Pump for charging your phone in a field is set to cause a storm when it’s shown off at Glastonbury from Wednesay. Wondering how it works? Read on to see it in action on film!

The Glastonbury Festival promises a lot of fun, but little in the way of opportunities to charge your phone, something of a problem considering it goes on for 5 days, particularly if you don’t have a removable battery for spares.

Orange gets round the dangers of mains electricity and soaking fields with the Orange Power Pump, a turbine plugged into a foot pump that converts blasts of air into ‘leccy for your mobile. Created by GotWind, a few minutes of treading on the Orange Power Pump will turn into 5 minutes of talk time, giving you just enough juice to make that drunken voicemail message, and a prototype will be on show at this year’s festival.

Of course, if you don’t fancy the effort of using the Orange Power Pump, you’ll still be able to boost your blower at one of 600 plain old charging points provided by the network at its Chill ‘n’ Charge tent. Check out how the Orange Power Pump works in the video below though, and if you’re heading out to Glasto, no, we don’t know if the women in the video will actually pump up your phone for you.
