Nokia may be planning to release a ‘mini’ version of the N97, according to a moderator on the Vodafone forums. Can this be true? Read on to find out…
Nokia’s N97 is a fine phone, but could it be made smaller, or ‘lite-er?’ That’s the question puzzled visitors to the Vodafone forums were asking themselves after a forum moderator apparently let slip the existence of an ‘N97 mini’ or ‘lite’.
‘Ev from Vodafone’ is the moderator in question. He/she replied to a poster who asked when Vodafone would be offering the Nokia N97 by saying that while an N97 release wasn’t planned, Vodafone would be offering an ‘N97 Mini’ in the near future.
Eh, do what now?
It would be easy to dismiss this as a prank, but someone at Vodafone has taken the trouble to edit the thread and remove most (but not all) references to the ‘N97 Mini’, including Ev’s initial post. Another moderator – ‘John from Vodafone’ posted this follow up: “Some information posted here yesterday has been removed. We are not in a position to discuss the N97 at this point. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will update you in due course.”
Hmm.
Assuming that there is any truth in this, what would an ‘N97 mini’ actually be like? Our best guess is that basic N97, minus the slide-out QWERTY keypad, but isn’t that just a 5800? Weird.
