A satnav isn’t just about showing you the route from A to B any more. It needs to be able to show the best route based on current traffic conditions, pull up petrol prices and stream live TV too, and now MyDrive adds another must have feature to the list: accurate journey times estimates based on how fast you drive.
Currently, many satnavs work out journey time based on fixed speeds for different types of road, and while we’re starting to see new technology that takes realtime traffic into account, MyDrive does one better by monitoring your own speeds, which vary depending on how fast your motor is, and whether you’re an amber gambler or not. The upshot? That journey time the satnav suggests becomes more accurate the more you drive.
It’s up to satnav makers to work the MyDrive software into their own devices, but personalisation seems like a logical step after always on net-connectivity, so don’t rule out something like this making it into your next satnav.
