Apple serves up iPhone OS 3.0 extras

  • Cut and paste – The simplest smartphone feature of all is here at last. Huzzah!
  • Landscape keyboards – Wider spaced buttons for pudgy pokers tapping out messages in any app.
  • Push notifications – Multitasking without braking the battery.
  • Tethering – Pipe the 3G connection into your laptop – for a fee.
  • Find My iPhone – Lose your iPhone? Track it down with this new MobileMe feature.
  • HTTP Streaming – Video streaming just got a whole lot faster.
  • Voice Control – Yell at your iPhone what you want it to do – none of this “touching” business.
  • Wi-Fi auto log-in – Helpful for jumping on Wi-Fi at home, work and out and about.

That’s just the beginning, so plug in your iPhone or iPod touch, load up iTunes 8.2 and start installing iPhone OS 3.0. Be sure to let us know how you find it!

Yep, it good – Some lengthy sync backups before and after the update however. Otherwise, all good. The improvements to the call log are particularly welcome!

Well, the activation servers died for an hour or so (and iTunes Windows error messages are appallingly bad – thought I had a brick) and Spotlight manages to find every deleted email I’ve ever received, then crashes Mail if I try to open one.

Copy paste is long overdue. Tried twittering or using a forum without being able to copy/paste images, URLs, etc?

    Landscape keyboard also long overdue.

    Overall; 5/10. Meh.

Mostly good but has screwed up some of the controls on my Timex remote control watch when using with my iPod touch. Real shame.
