Palm Pre gets Missing Sync

palm_pre_missing_syncPalm Pre owners who don’t fancy trusting all their data to the ‘Cloud’ will be able to get their sync on using old favourite The Missing Sync which has just announced a Palm Pre edition.

The Palm Pre has done away with all that so-last-decade PC and Mac synching nonsense – opting instead for a ‘cloud computing” model that stores your data online. Which is great – unless you would prefer to keep your own copy of your data and don’t just want to trust Google et al to keep it safe.

Given that Sync is now Missing on the Palm Pre it is no surprise that MarkSpace have ported their mobile and PDA sync tool The Missing Sync to the Palm Pre. The Missing Sync for Palm Pre works with the Pre’s built-in Palm Synergy service (which gives the Pre its unified address book and contacts list) and can keep backup copies of all your Pre data. Contacts, messages, photos, ringtones even iTunes playlists can be kept in sync with your Mac.

We say Mac because at the moment only Mac-heads can use The Missing Sync with their Palm Pre. A Windows version is due soon, however. You will need Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later to run the Mac version, and iTunes 7.4 is required for playlist sync.

Available now (PC version tbc) | $39.95 | MarkSpace (via Palm Blvd)
