Wii Fit Plus stole the show at Nintendo’s E3 keynote, but if you’re left wondering what all the fuss is about, you can find out right here. We’ve hopped on top of a balance board and tilted, stretched and stomped through a first play of the game. Read on for the video, plus first impressions!
We tested out a few of the activities on offer in Wii Fit Plus, and they’re quite a change from the boring Yoga elements of the original Wii Fit. Sports now include riding a Segway, steering with the WiiMote and catching some air over ramps and molehills, Tai Chi (all about the timing), and cycling, which sees you shuffling on the board to pick up speed and hitting checkpoints across a course in the fastest time possible.
Events like cycling require more than a bit of thought, as you’ll need to work out the fastes route across a track. It’s good to see Nintendo bringing tactical elements in to some of the sports in Wii Fit Plus, as it should keep you coming back after you’ve got over the novelty of working up a sweat with a game.
Oh, and the Mario-style jumping game we were promised? Sheer and utter nonsense, but liable to be maddeningly addictive. You find yourself treading on the spot to walk forward, and raising your knees quickly to jump over rolling logs. It’s barely even 2D, but it breaks a sweat and gets you hooked immediately. And makes you look like a wally. Wii Fit Plus is out in the Autumn, but you can warm up for its release in our hands-on video below.
