The Dell Mini 10v may be the cheapest hackintosh yet, but the Sony VAIO P must be the smallest machine ever to run OS X. Read on to check out Apple’s operating system in action on Sony’s little laptop!
Sony nailed the form factor of the Sony VAIO P, unveiled back at CES in January, but in its desperation to prove it wasn’t a netbook, Sony crippled the machine by loading it with sluggy Windows Vista. It’s no trouble to switch out Vista for XP on the Sony VAIO P, but you can now rid yourself of Microsoft entirely if you feel so inclined.
A couple of hackers over at the Insanely Mac forum have managed to get round the problems presented by the Sony VAIO P’s GMA 500 graphics, and squeezed OS X Leopard on to it. For now there are a few rather large drawbacks: no 3D graphics, Wi-Fi, 3G and shonky sound, but it’s a start towards getting OS X running as smooth as Windows on the Sony VAIO P.
Instructions are provided, but you’ll need to know your way around a kext, so for the moment it’s pros only, but treat yourself to what soon might be with a video of Sony VAIO P running OS X Leopard below!
