UPDATE: We’ve popped up a hands-on video of the Samsung Jet. Don’t miss it!

Remember that mysterious Samsung package? It turns out it’s the Samsung Jet, a brand new OLED touchscreen mobile. We’ve had a poke around with the plucky iPhone rival already so come and get up close with it in our hands-on gallery!

It looks like Samsung managed to get the WVGA, OLED panel we saw earlier this month off the conveyor belt at double quick pace, as a vibrant 3.1-inch “full touch” screen is the centre piece for the Samsung Jet.

Specs-wise, the Samsung Jet packs a zingy 800MHz processor and 5MP camera, plus HSDPA and GPS, which estimates your travel based on previous average speed, even when you’re out of GPS range, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the software side, the Samsung Jet will juggle multiple apps (5 browser windows at a time) and supports Microsoft Exchange, and it’ll handle your media without breaking a sweat. The nicest touches? “Smart unlock”, which unlocks your phone and automatically launches a program or dials a number when you swipe a specific letter on screen, and one finger zoom which almost removes the need for multitouch entirely.

The resistive OLED screen on the Samsung Jet is as glorious as you’d expect, packing all the colour of the Sony X-Series Walkman, but much sharper detail. The only problem? The Samsung Jet is supposedly “smarter than smartphone”, but those deft touches aside, it’s not. It’s running TouchWhiz 2.0, so there’s no open third party support. The Samsung Jet is faster than many smartphones though, and if you’re all about watching movies on your mobile, this is the top of the line right now.

Enough chitter chatter though, check out the Samsung Jet in our hands-on gallery right here!
