The PSP Go leaks that preceded this year’s big E3 announcement have displeased SCEA president, Jack Tretton, who says that he finds such partial leaks “frustrating.” Find out what else the Sony bigwig has to say here…
The PSP Go reveal at E3 was something of a damp squib. Not because the handheld was lacklustre, but simply because there was almost nothing there that hadn’t been leaked, hinted at or guessed by the time Sony chose to unveil its new baby – a fact which has ticked off SCEA’s president.
“People don’t respect confidentiality in this industry,” said Tretton after the games expo. “It’s tough enough to keep a secret within your own company, much less when you speak to third parties”
“This is an industry that has trouble focusing on today. We want to constantly talk about tomorrow… You have to prepare for people to know things in advance. The frustrating thing is they only know a part of the story and that opens up a lot of conjecture and misinformation that ultimately waters down the reality when you roll it out.”
It’s true – there were plenty of other rumours about the PSP Go (3G, extra analogue stick, etc) that proved unfounded and added to the faint air of disappointment surrounding Sony’s E3 announcement, which is a shame as the PSP Go looks like a big improvement on the PSP and the switch to downloadable titles from UMD is a big step forward.
