Cool-er eBook

Exclusive: The Cool-er eBook is only just about to go on sale, but we’ve already got wind of its successor, and it could be a big screen e-reader to rival the Kindle DX! Read on to find out what to expect.

We were impressed by the low cost Cool-er eBook when we got hands and eyes-on with it last month, and while it’s about to go on sale, the creator has plans for a new Cool-er to follow, potentially with a large screen format.

Cool-er eBook hands-on

We asked Cool-er inventor and Interead CEO Neil Jones what was next for the Cool-er eBook, and he told us to watch out for a device taking on a different market: magazine and newspapers.

“The Cool-er is only the first of many. I’m anticipating our next Cool-er will be available for launch at the end of the year…and will be suitable for education, perhaps magazine reading,” he said.

“It’ll be a reading device with a different usage…maybe a larger format reading experience.” That puts the next Cool-er directly alongside the Kindle DX, the latest Amazon eBook with a large touchscreen designed for newspapers and magazines.

We pressed Jones to find out what specs we’d be seeing and while nothing is certain yet (Jones let slip that he’s got some”very interesting discussions” going on over the next few weeks), he didn’t rule out a touchscreen Cool-er, or one with wireless connectivity (“Perhaps via Wi-Fi or even Bluetooth and your mobile phone”), so long as it doesn’t “impede the reading experience”.

Don’t expect any solid details on the next Cool-er for a while yet, but it won’t replace the Cool-er Classic, as Jones calls it, but sit alongside it on the shelf instead. Now, will we see a Kindle, any Kindle, hitting the UK before then?
