Google tackling Twitter search?Google could be about to roll out its own microblogging search service, to dig through Twitter updates and more in realtime, just like Twitter Search.

Blog Google Operating System stumbled across this intriguing screen over the weekend. Look closely and you’ll see the text says: “This is the MicroBlogSearch Universal result group header text. A MicroBlog is a blog with a very short entries (sic). Twitter is the popular service associated with this format.”

It’s possible that this is the explainer text Google will provide when it rolls out a microblogging universal search service. Google has hinted before that it wants to move into the realtime search area that sites like Twitter Search and Tweefind already offer.

Google recently rolled out chronological order sorting in its search engine, but a service that sorts through up the minute tweets would help tighten its grip on all forms of web search even more. The ball’s in your court, Bing.
