Well I’ve had the Bamboo now for 4 days and have been enjoying all the included features. I’ve recently realised MS Office is included as well as the Lightscribe Disc Labelling software which, I believe, allows you to label discs using the laser on your disc burner. The battery is holding up rather well and, at the time of writing, has 22 minutes left on it.
I’ve probably used it running off the battery about 3-4 hours which is fine for my requirements but I’m not sure about the environmental aspect and with regard to those using it for long hours of business – then there is always the second battery to use.
I decided to set up the fingerprint scanner, partly for security, mostly for entertainment value – I was hoping to find a setting where a voice would say ‘access granted!’ But alas I couldn’t even get it to work! I read that section of the instructions, I read the previous section, following instructions the best I could but still nothing! Oh well, perhaps I’ll try out the ASUS customer support as part of this process and let you know what happens.
Instead I decided, as my digital camera is still broken, to try out the built in camera. I’ve never had a webcam before but noticed the button – in a similar position to the ‘on’ one – with a camera image. Pressed it and hey presto there I was on the screen, bemused expression on face. Deciding not to try it out on a picture of myself – being so far from Halloween and all – and instead took some photos of the accessories I forgot to show you last time.
First I have to say this is probably easier for taking self portraits, holding up a mouse or part of the box and trying to click on the ‘capture image’ button isn’t easy!
Also it’s best to make sure you have it set on camera before you begin – I ended up with a 2 minute film of myself holding things up to the camera!
Anyway, once the images have been taken using the default ASUS LifeFrame software a limited amount of tweaking can be done straight away: from changing the tint to adding backgrounds as you can see from the pictures I’ve included. I thought the Halloween one was quite the coincidence after what I‘d wrote, not that the little wood fronted organiser shown is anything but gorgeous. And the wood effect background seemed an ideal way to show off the mouse; case; and cable tie!
The image quality wasn’t digital camera quality but then you’re not going to carry a laptop around with you for your holiday snaps! So, a bit of fun really, and handy if you want to use it online, which reminds me – I better set up my wireless internet connection next.
