Sennheiser IE8

When you hear the words “Kevlar” and “neodymium magnets” being bandied around you don’t expect to be talking about headphones, but that’s exactly what we are talking about: the Sennheiser IE8s to be precise.

The Sennheiser IE8s come with a selection of ear tips, so even if you have Ben Stiller-style lugholes, you can still achieve a comfortable fit. Sound quality is meaty, with heaps of bass. We’re talking earthquake-rumbling bass here. And if that’s still not enough, you can fine-tune the bass further with the tiny screwdriver provided, so you go from Earth-shaking to Earth-shattering!

The interchangeable Kevlar (yeah, the stuff they stick in bullet-proof vests) cable, meanwhile, ensures that there’s maximum flexibility, so even if your wires get tangled and knotted, you’re not going to do them any damage.

Weighing just 5g, the Sennheiser IE8 are unbelievably light too. You wouldn’t believe they were so tough had we not told you. But just because they’re light, doesn’t make them light on performance. We’ve already told you about the low-end performance, but even for higher-end stuff these deliver forceful, crisp and detailed tunes. And as isolating earphones they really do block out those horrible noises like trains, planes and Madonna gigs.

We will say that you have to persist with the Sennheiser IE8s. Like hi-fi speakers, they take a few hours to warm up. But once you’ve got them going, there are few in-ear ‘phones that can match their sonic boom!
