We love
Amazing battery. Free on certain mobile phone/broadband contracts.
We hate
There are few netbooks heavier than the NC10.
Verdict
Could do with shedding a few pounds, but otherwise the NC10 is extremely good value for money - especially if you get it free on contract.

Samsung NC10

Were you to pop a standard-sized Samsung laptop into the machine from Honey I shrunk The Kids, you’d end up with the Samsung NC10.

Inside the Samsung NC10 you’ll find the same processor as many of its netbook rivals – a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor to be precise – as well as 1GB of RAM, 160GB of storage, a webcam and Windows XP beating away.

But that’s pretty much de rigeur in today’s netbooks. Where the NC10 excels is in its trouser (and by trouser, we mean battery) department. Flouting a battery life that pounds other netbooks into dust (apart from the Asus Eee PC 100HE – nothing can compare with that battery behemoth), this keeps the 10-inch screen going for at least five hours. That’s thanks to the six-cell power pack that Samsung has equipped the NC10 with. And with a bit of careful tweaking it’ll go on for even longer!

With a battery life that lengthy, something has to suffer, and that something is your back. The NC10 is heavier (it weighs 1.33kg) and uglier than most of its netbook brethren. The upside is you can get the NC10 free on certain mobile phone/broadband contracts. Find one and you can use the money you save to pay for a chiropractor.

Watchout though if you’re considering getting the NC10 netbook package from Vodafone – it only comes with a 3-cell battery unlike the 6 cell version the retail Samsung is packaged with, meaning you will barely get 3 hour’s use unlike the 7+ hours all the reviews rave about and one of the NC10′s strongest selling points.
