Project Natal stole the show at E3 for the Xbox 360, with the promise of incredibly accurate motion gaming just with a camera perched on your set top box. But it’s caused a backlash, with many sceptical that the technology can’t possibly work. Can it? The answer’s yes – at least when it’s meticulously prepared for a TV studio. Read on for a video of it in action on a US chat show!
Microsoft’s Kudo Tsunoda, who has been stewarding the tech since it was unveiled at the Microsoft keynote at E3, dropped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to show how Project Natal works – on a 108 inch flatscreen, of course.
The games on show in the official Project Natal video are only concepts aimed to show what it’s capable of, but the ball game demoed here mimics limb movement surprisingly well, and promises much more accuracy compared to plain old Wii Sports. Racing with Project Natal meanwhile comes across as responsive and fluid, and with no gamepad, Wii wheel or controller in sight.
