TomTom and Garmin are like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Every time the chasing pack thinks they’ve caught up, TomTom and Garmin unleash a smarter model that makes the others look like Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski put together. The Garmin nuvi 860T, which was the first satnav with ‘full menu voice activation’ is no exception.
Garmin’s stuffed the nuvi 860T to the brim with useful tech such as the voice activation controls, which allow you to change settings without taking your hands off the wheel, which is considered a pretty important part of driving really. It’s pretty clever, but not always convenient as inputting voice commands is time-consuming. Probably best for emergencies.
Elsewhere, the Garmin nuvi 860T’s 4.3-inch touchscreen is sizeable enough for easy navigation, and the interface is super-responsive to your prods – options and shortcuts are only a touchscreen tap away. The 860T’s also got a host of extra features, such as Bluetooth for hands-free calling, maps for 33 countries, a lifetime of traffic alerts and an up-to-date database of safety cameras. You can even navigate using Google Panoramio geo-taged pictures, available from connect.garmin.com
In use, it’s as good as any satnav on the market, hooking up with satellites and plotting routes quicker than Russell Brand hooks up with women. So we only have one question for you: why navigate when you can nuvigate?
