Canon pretty much always makes great cameras, but the Canon EOS 5D Mark II takes the rule book, rips it up, and spits out a new High-Definition standard for DSLRs to follow.
Boasting high-tech optical wizardry aplenty and a 24x36mm CMOS sensor with 21.1 megapixels, this ensures you’ll be taking great pictures time after time. Seriously, you’ll start feeling like a proper pap as soon as you start using it, and before you know it you’ll be taking snaps of pantless slebs. Ahem.
Anyway, we digress. The DIGIC 4 processor captures fantastic colours and tones – aided by the awesome ISO range that’s expandable to 25,600 – while the handy thumb wheel lets you browse through the 5D’s bewilderingly complex list of options on the camera’s luscious three-inch screen.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is packed with useful features, such as a Lighting Optimiser that turns underexposed snaps into bright images, and a face detection system to rescue backlit portraits. And shooting 21-megapixel RAW images means that even after cropping out useless elements that take up space – Michael Owen for instance – you’ll still be left with sharp hi-res images of the action. Although, the 5D Mk II’s 3.9fps burst mode isn’t as snappy as other DSLRs’.
All that imaging goodness, then, and we haven’t even spoken about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II’s ability to capture full-HD 1080p movies! You can chuck your old camcorder right now, because the images captured here are glorious. The only negatives being that the 5D’s autofocusing isn’t all that, and you’ll need some hefty memory cards to store all these hi-res snaps and Hi-Def films.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II captures great shots every time, then, and awesome Hi-Def movies. Even that hefty£2k price tag can’t prevent this from being top of the paps.
