We love
It's 23mm thin! That's about as wide as our big thumb!
We hate
Weak black levels and overall picture quality could have been better.
Verdict
While the Toshiba 40ZF355D doesn't boast the best picture quality around, it gets bonus points for affordability and overall litheness. Another fine slab 'o' slim from Tosh.

Toshiba 40ZF355D

Flatscreens don’t come much flatter than the Toshiba 40ZF355D: it’s startling 23mm depth makes pancakes, stick insects and Flat Eric boil with envy.

Toshiba has done a bang-up job of shaving off the puppy fat inches to give you this almost ridiculously slimline 40-inch telly. Thankfully it’s anything but lightweight when it comes to specs and performance. Yes, it ‘only’ has three HDMI ports, but the screen is a full-HD 1080p affair that excels with HD content and games, delivering unbelievably vibrant colours.

Unfortunately, the picture quality can’t quite match the quality of the best screens out there. Even though the Toshiba 40ZF355D boasts that 100Hz processing technology there is some motion blur evident and, while the contrat ratio of 30,000:1 is good, black reproduction doesn’t leave you feeling like you’re staring into an abyss of nothingness.

It’s hard to be too critical of the Toshiba 40ZF355D, though, when you can snaffle one up online for under a grand. Yes, the picture’s not as amazing as it could have been, but this is still slim and stylish enough to grace even the snobbiest of walls.
