Samsung BD-P460

If you prefer your Blu-ray movies served up in style, then your interest should be piqued by the Samsung BD-P4600 – one of the most fetching Hi-Def players around… and the world’s slimmest, fastest, wall-mountable Blu-ray player to boot.

Samsung was an early Blu-ray adopter and it’s clearly showing off with its third-gen player. Yes, you’re paying a slight premium for the original design, but the backlit, touch-sensitive pebble-shaped BDP-4600 looks absolutely stunning, especially if you hook it up on your wall. If you’re not confident in your DIY abilities, though, you can always stick it on its own little stand, and it looks almost as good.

Such a slender case, however, means the Samsung BD-P4600 is a bit shy on ports. So you’ll have to do without component output or multiple audio sockets.

The Samsung BD-P4600 is also an incredibly quick starter, firing up in well under a minute, delivering those crisp HD images. Admittedly they’re a bit soft compared to say the Denon DVD-3800BD – and upscaled DVDs look just like, well, DVDs – but it does costs about a fifth of the price. And you even have the option of adding a handy wireless dongle, which saves you having to trail an ethernet cable from your router to get online.

Overall, then, the Samsung BD-P4600 is a chic Blu-ray player for the style-conscious film buff.
