Palm Pre investor Roger McNamee, who you may remember from from such random outbursts as “All iPhone 1.0 users will switch to the Pre” has appeared on financial news channel Fox Business to talk about the Pre launch and he is rather pleased with how things are going.
With the Palm Pre launch weekend over with, Palm can set about the grim business of keeping the money flowing. Chief Palm investor Roger McNamee spoke to Fox Business about the launch and said that the launch was, “dream come true.”
McNamee also tried to clear up the issue of whether the Palm Pre is really in direct competition with the iPhone. Rather than trying to knock Apple off its perch, Roger paints Palm as an underdog, saying that the Palm Pre is an attempt to turn around an unsuccessful business (Palm). He then called the new Palm “A start-up inside an established company.”
The reason the Palm Pre won’t be crushed by the iPhone 3Gs is, apparently, that there is room for both types of phone and that teh Palm Pre’s hardware keyboard and multitasking are two of its biggest strengths. The Palm Pre is for, “people who say I cannot have a real life without a keyboard — I can’t live doing one thing at a time.”
“If what you care about most is listening to music or playing back videos,” said Roger, “the iPhone is probably the right phone for you.” Ouch! Um, we suppose.
