Microsoft Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 might not have the processing power of the Sony PS3, but when it comes to the “Who’s Got The Biggest” game, the 360 throws down the gauntlet with its almighty back catalogue of AAA titles.

Available in 20GB, 60GB and the 120GB Elite version, the Xbox 360 has long been thought of as the gamer’s choice of console. While Wii placates the “nursury” generation, and the PS3 is a multimedia monster, the 360 does what it’s always been asked to with aplomb: deliver great games.

Plug in your 360 and your eyes will almost pop out your ears, the HD visuals are that good. The pictures are matched by the sonics too, with punchy, all-encompassing 5.1 surround sound supported by Microsoft’s baby.

Microsoft has backed up its games machine with the best online gaming service in the land too – Xbox LIVE – which offers all manner of online multiplayer experiences and movie and game downloads to subscribers. And with the newly signed deal to bring Sky Player to LIVE, it just keeps on growing, and currently blows PlayStation network out of the water!

Where the 360 has been let down in the past is in the reliability stakes. It’s been plagued with over-heating issues and we don’t even want to get started on the red rings of death! Suffice to say if you see those, well, you’re in trouble. That said, Microsoft’s three-year warranty is a handy safety net. What’s not so handy is the fan: it sounds like jet engine starting up… through a microphone.

When all’s said and done, though, the Xbox 360 is still the best console for games. Want quirky? You want Nintendo. Want power? PS3′s your box. But if you want pure, unadulterated gaming satisfaction, then look no further.
