We love
Punchy, bright screen. Still best for email.
We hate
Too wide for comfy or non-stupid-looking calling
The fastest, coolest and most effective BlackBerry to date. This is almost the perfect business device.

BlackBerry Bold

Ever owned a mobile so powerful it feels like you’re carrying an extra brain? The BlackBerry Bold is one such phone, combining Wi-Fi, 3G and a full QWERTY keyboard in a surprisingly slick, black case, whilst maintaining that which made BlackBerry so addictive: email.

Normally, if you’d stick a QWERTY keyboard on a phone it would look about as sexy as a Pier Morgan, Simon Cowell and an Ant/Dec (delete to taste) menage a trois. But the BlackBerry Bold somehow manages to achieve the impossible: a business phone that looks desirable.

Not just that, the Bold is actually nearly the perfect business device. Texting and composing emails is, unsurprisingly, the Bold’s forte, but at the same time you’ll actually enjoy watching YouTube clips on the superb 2.6-inch, 320×480 pixel, VGA screen.

It’s not exactly the slimmest device, but that’s the price you pay for an effective QWERTY and all that extra processing power, so it’s not something we’re going to focus on too much. The two-megapixel camera, on the other hand, is the Bold’s biggest flaw. You might say the Bold’s got a touch of the iPhones here. Its camera is so far away from cutting-edge you could call it blunt. That said, because there’s a GPS receiver onboard, you can still geo-tag your crappy photos!

Apart from the below-par camera and the fairly chunky body, though, the Bold continues BlackBerry’s tradition of superb smarties.
