Apple iMac too pricey by far? Then consider, sir, the Asus Eee Top. All the fun of the super-affordable Eee PC range in a desktop computer. And here’s the kicker, it goes one further than the iMac with a finger-licking touchscreen!
If your desk is more cluttered than a Hobbit’s bungalow then you want an all-in-one desktop. The Asus Eee Top is easy on your desk space and your wallet. The Eee’s values are there for all to see right from when you take your wallet out in the shop to pay for it. That £440 outlay will seem like a steal when you see how simple this is to work: plug it in, turn it on, and tap an icon on the touchscreen with your finger. It really is that easy.
Don’t worry if your digits start to tire from all that touchscreen prodding – there’s a hidden stylus in the equally solid and charming keyboard that’ll take the pain out out of navigating.
Naturally, at this price point, something has to give. And the specs are indeed those of an Eee PC: a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160B hard drive aren’t going to win the Eee Top any nominations for the Most Specced Out Desktop Award. But it does have a webcam and built-in stereo speakers.
While it’s hard to knock the Eee Top when it costs half the price of a normal desktop, the 1366×768 resolution of the screen does start to look grainy, while Windows XP looks cheap! And don’t even think about trying to play games laden with 3D graphics.
That said, you won’t find a better value desktop for your money. Let alone one with a touchscreen.
