Meet the 13-inch MacBook Pro

One of the biggest surprises of the WWDC keynote last night was the unveiling of a new MacBook Pro. Not because nobody saw Apple sticking in a better battery and even faster hardware, but because it did it in a 13-inch laptop. That’s right: the classic MacBook just became a MacBook Pro, and with good cause – find out why in our gallery.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is just as thin and light as the aluminium MacBook it replaces, but this time Cupertino has managed to squeeze in a battery good for 7 hours when snatched from the mains. That stamina will stay as well, as Apple says the 13-inch MacBook Pro’s capacity will only drop 20% after 1,000 charges.

Another new addition to the 13-inch MacBook Pro is a built in SD card slot, so you can fill up on all your photos without having to dilly around with dongles. It’s the inside that really earns it the Pro name though: you’ve got a choice of 2.26GHz COre 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD, or 2.53GHz, 4 gigs o’RAM and a 250GB HDD.

If that’s still no powerful enough for you, you can boost your 13-inch MacBook Pro up to 8GB of RAM (Running 64-bit Snow Leopard) and a 500GB HDD or speedy 256GB SSD. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro is up for ordering now, but you can get to grips with it in our gallery before you take the plunge.
