TomTom headed to iPhone App StoreThe TomTom turn by turn GPS app for the iPhone has just been unveiled at WWDC, along with an iPhone car holder to help you keep your eyes on the road!

We knew that turn by turn was coming with iPhone OS 3.0, but TomTom has made its iPhone app super official at WWDC in San Francisco. Looks wise, the TomTom iPhone app has huge icons and sparse text so you’ll be able to find your way around no problem, and once you choose your route it opens up into the familiar TomTom mapping. Text to speech is present and accounted for, and the iPhone will work in both landscape and portrait with it.

The TomTom iPhone car kitTomTom also wheeled out an iPhone car holder kit which locks in your iPhone with TomTom’s ingenious twisty sucker, and recharges it to boot! Unfortunately, the one piece of info TomTom didn’t let slip is when the iPhone app will hit the App Store, but we’ll bring you that as soon as we know.

Does anyone know if you can play music (and audiobooks) with the tomtom application running?

Most current iPhone apps let you play music through the iPod ‘app’ on the iPhone while you’re using them, and audiobooks are treated just the same as music. We won’t know for certain until we get hold of the new TomTom app, but on the face of it there’s no reason why you couldn’t listen to music at the same time.

    Thanks James,
I also wonder if the tomtom app will continue if you make or receive calls?

I don’t think any of my current apps continue if you receive a call??
