LG OLED display handles hammer blowsLG has just debuted an OLED display that’s been “ruggedized” at the SID Display Week tradeshow in the US. Nope, that doesn’t mean it’s wearing a lumberjack shirt and sporting Hugh Jackman sideburns, but it does mean you can take a mallet to it and it won’t break. Read on for all the info on this beautiful screen for the butter-fingered!

LG has been showing off this 15-inch OLED panel, and it’s not just the vibrant colours that stand out on this screen: it’s the fact that it won’t break, even if you smash it with a hammer.

LG LF7700 Freesat TV: hands-on

The 120Hz, 1,366×768 resolution LG OLED screen is less than a centimetre thick but it’s able to stand up to wallops thanks to a steel backing and resin layer on top, although since the middle layer is formed with glass, it’s not flexible like other OLED panels we’ve seen.

We’re not sure what purpose LG has in mind for this rugged OLED display, but we’d like to see it used in a new breed of motion sensing video games which see you smashing the screens with your fists. It’d make more sense than the Wii Vitality Sensor, at any rate.
