Apple iPhone 3GsThe iPhone 3Gs. Here it is. The new iPhone. The S in iPhone 3G S stands for Speed, since this is the most powerful iPhone yet, delivering performance increases of at least 2.1 times. Want to see how quick the iPhone can get? Read on for the full skinny on the iPhone 3Gs.

Apple’s marketing supremo Phil Schiller took to the stage at WWDC to unveil the iPhone 3G S, calling it “the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet.”

Inside are re-worked innards to deliver a 2.1x speed increase in launching apps. Viewing attachments is almost 4x as quick, and even graphically intense apps benefit from an almost 3x performance boost.

But that’s not all. The iPhone 3Gs has 7.2Mbps HSDPA for ultra-quick downloads. There’s also a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus crammed inside, which lets owners tap the screen to choose a focal point, or let the iPhone 3G S figure everything out itself in auto mode.

There’s an “auto macro” mode too, activated when subjects are around 10cm away, and as expected the iPhone 3G S can also capture video footage.

But it’s not simple video filming. You can scrub through footage and edit it with a tap of the finger. When you’re happy with the result you can share it using MMS, included in the iPhone 3.0 OS, or upload it direct to YouTube.

But it doesn’t stop there. Apple has built in phenomenal voice control. Hold down the home button on the iPhone 3G S and a voice control interface appears. It works in any app, and lets you say simple commands. Say out loud “play songs by The Killers” and it’ll do just that. Whisper “What’s playing now?” and the iPhone will tell you. You can even say “play more songs like this” and the iPod software’s Genius function will kick in.

Apple doesn’t just let you talk to the iPhone 3G S though. It’s also letting the iPhone talk to you. Text to speech lets the iPhone read out what’s on screen, and built-in Nike+ support means it’ll be a hit with fitness fans, babbling fitness stats as you pound the pavement.

Not impressed? There’s also a digital compass built in, so maps can be properly orientated, oh and Apple has improved the battery life of the iPhone 3G S too.

Using Wi-Fi with an iPhone 3G S you’ll get 9 hours of web use, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours of 2G talktime or 5 hours of 3G talktime.

All this and the iPhone 3G S is the most environmentally friendly iPhone Apple has ever made. It’s arsenic, BFR, mercury, and PVC-free.
