Sony PSP GoThe Sony PSP Go has a problem: what do you do about the games you’ve already got on UMD disc, if you already owned an existing PSP? The answer to the problem: Sony’s working on it.

“We are looking into programs for owners who have previously purchased UMD titles and want to exchange them for digital versions,” said Brian Keltner, Sony Computer Entertainment America, told Kotaku.

Sony will be “looking at what kind of games will be offered” for the Sony PSP Go upgrade program, John Koller, Sony Computer Entertainment America, told Gizmodo. Which means not all old Sony PSP games on UMD disc will be transferrable to a digital version for the Sony PSP Go.

While the Sony PSP Go should feature a better screen, better battery life and Bluetooth for the first time, existing Sony PSP owners should be wary of upgrading until Sony clarifies its policy on replacing UMD games (and meanwhile, Sony has promised that new Sony PSP games will continue to be available as a UMD as well as by download for the PSP Go).

Can I actually suggest you times some time to WATCH Sony’s E3 presentation… It’s clear you haven’t

It was clearly stated (perhaps not clearly enough for dumb journalists), that PSP Go does not replace PSP3000, they will compliment each other, both will exist and all PSP games from this point on will be on digital AND UMD, certainly all 1st party titles, and most 3rd party titles (although it’s at the discretion of the publisher, but given the better profits from digital you can assume 99% will be digital).

ManicMiner, maybe you should read the news story a bit more carefully?
I clearly say that Sony has said new games will be available on UMD and via digital distribution.
The problem is that purchasers of a PSP Go, who already own an existing PSP, but don’t presumably want to carry both in their backpack at all times (or might even want to sell their old PSP), won’t be able to play their existing library of old UMD games on the UMD-less Go.
It’s a problem Sony themselves acknowledge and are trying to find a workaround to. Hence the story.
Dumb journalist? Dumb reader more like!

Give poor ManicMiner a break – the red mist descends as soon as he sees a games-related post that doesn’t immediately lavish praise on Sony.

i think the new PSP Go is going 2 be cool but i was a little upset about the part with the no umdslot 2 play your old psp games…i think if the creators 4 the PSP Go dont make enough sales 4 this system they maybe could make a different version of it.like they did with the previously PSP’s…idk

ummm….UMD roms anyone? I’m guessing it wouldn’t be that hard to either dump or download a rom of a umd game and transfer it to the PSPgo by way of built in memory or memory stick micro.
