android_logoBenQ is dipping its toes in Android’s waters. The Taiwanese manufacturer will be bringing out a smartphone and netbook, both running Google’s open operating system in 2010.

BenQ has had some success selling Windows Mobile smartphones in Asia after taking over Siemens’ mobile division, but the company seems determined to give Android a good go by committing to making both phones and netbooks running the OS. As well as its existing smartphone line, BenQ also produces netbooks in the form of the Vista-powered Joybook.

The Android experiment is said to be an attempt to rebuild BenQ’s name in the mobile market. Hopefully this will mean that the BenQ ‘droids will turn up on these shore too.

With all the Android phones and – increasingly – netbooks that are starting to appear, you have to wonder if BenQ can bring anything special to the party. We have our fingers crossed that some bright spark at BenQ labs remembers that they also make a nice mini projector and decides to try and put two and two together…
